The deed included language such as: \u201cbe maintained by Grantee in its historical natural condition;\u201d \u201cretain such of the tall nesting grasses.\u201d After much public debate and redesign, this natural park is more developed than natural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Had Woodmont been a \u201cNature Preserve\u201d under Measure 3-568, unnecessary development could have been avoided:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Size of developable land area (4.8 of 6.8 acres)<\/li><li>Increased water consumption with permanent irrigation<\/li><li>Major grading of 40% of developable land<\/li><li>Stockpiling existing topsoil<\/li><li>Removal of original grasses and 393 trees.<\/li><li>Erosion from grading<\/li><li>Incompatible planting conditions<\/li><li>Contentious public process \u2014 original plan was rejected by City Council due to strong public opposition (including parks board members)<\/li><li>Loss of carbon sinks due to loss of mature vegetation<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We must change the current city processes with those that protect natural resources, limiting climate change.
