SUBJECT : 8/3 Public Comment – Support Citizen’s Measure Limiting Natural Park Development

Dear City Council,

I FULLY SUPPORT our CITIZEN’S MEASURE to protect our natural parks from development and YOU should too!

TELL CITY COUNCIL WHY THE NATURAL PARKS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU AND WHY YOU SUPPORT THE CITIZEN’S MEASURE

On June 23, 2021, Lake Oswego registered voters qualified citizen initiative petition, 2020IN-1, as a ballot measure for the November 2021 election; the result of an 18-month city-wide outreach and education effort by 100s of volunteers. Qualifying this initiative is a significant grassroots accomplishment that we should all be celebrating and supporting! It represents our community’s values for protecting our neighborhood natural habitats from development.

The citizen’s measure is written precisely, deliberately and intentionally. It expands upon the current ‘Chapter X – Park Development Limitation’ that protect Springbrook Park by asking voters to further limit development that is inconsistent with maintaining 15 additional natural parks as healthy and vibrant natural habitats.

I encourage you to stand with over 4,700 LO registered voters (your constituents) who signed (and continue to sign) the citizen initiative petition and show your support for our citizen’s measure. Please don’t support efforts to undermine the citizen’s measure by forwarding a competing City referendum to the November ballot. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
